Good morning! Just wanted to tell you something that's been on my mind since I saw the picture of your husband holding your baby under the arms. One of the things the vet told me when Lexi was in for the IVDD is that these dwarfed breeds should never be held under the arms unless the bottom is supported. Apparently their spines are very sensitive because of all the damage done by breeding down the size of the dog. He also told me that this is especially true of those bought from Europe.
I just wanted to pass that info on to you. Please don't take it as criticism. I know you love yours as much as I love mine and wouldn't intentionally hurt her.
Yes, it's ok to tell me to butt out!
Have a great day!
Just a short note to tell you what my little darling did last night.
She pooped in the living room (cream colored carpeting) and on my daughter's bed! I had just taken her out!
Then she had to audacity to look at me with the "it wasn't me" face.
I've heard that these dogs that are imported from Europe often have issues. I guess their puppy mills are just as bad if not worse than ours. Lexi came from Hungary.
Although she has not had any other issues, I don't think I will ever get another dog from an overseas breeder. Next time I'll either rescue one or buy from a reputable breeder.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Lexi won't have any other problems.
Wow, I feel for you. I think, however, that you should remember that you were doing the best you could with the information you had. You were following the "expert's" advice. Your had the best intentions for your dog.
I do know how you feel. I know you don't have kids but the things you feel for your dogs are the same things I feel with my kids. Every time they get sick, I start to doubt myself and my ability to tell the difference between a regular cold and a flu, is my son's ADHD med right for him, am I answering my daughter's adoption questions correctly, etc. Trust me, there is always doubt and guilt - they go with the territory.
Off topic - I saw you posted a question about cataracts. Which baby has cataracts?
Yes, for ten days after I took her in, we had to give her a muscle relaxant and a pain killer. He also gave her a cortisone shot. Neither the mr nor the pk were strong enough to make her drowsy so she was acting "normal" right away. I really felt bad for her when she was in pain because she just kept giving me the "help me, mommy" face with the big eyes. Just the look on her face told me she was in a lot of pain.
She seems to be back to normal so I have to be careful to not forget that this isn't a one time thing. We have to be mindful of her activities - like jumping off furniture. Unfortunately, the little devil knows that where there are kids, there are crumbs and she's always jumping on the furniture looking for food.
I think she's got cabin fever right now. It's about 95 degrees and humid so walks are out of the question for the moment. In order to take her for a walk, I have to wait until 10 pm when it's gotten a little cooler outside. By that time, I'm ready to pass out!
Thanks for asking about Lexi. She is doing fine. In fact, she seemed to be back to normal after just two days. I did, however, keep her caged for 10 days. She was definitely happy to get out of there. I just need to be careful with her and the kids (almost 7 and 11). When she's around them, she is a lunatic. She steals their shoes and toys to make them chase her. With my husband and me, she's quiet. She follows me around all the time, or I should say "until she spots one of the kids". Then all hell breaks loose! How old is your frenchie?
Think they're twins? :) Did you pick her because of her markings? I did. When I saw that face, I fell in love. It's funny because from the sides she's two different dogs - one side is completely white and the other side has the black face. I love it!
