I got to Dr. Simpson's early to fill out the initial paperwork and left Gaz in their care at 9:00 a.m. I know this is a standard procedure and Dr. Simpson is great with brachycephalic breeds (he owns and shows Frenchies to top it off), but the minute I got into the car I started crying! I was told to call at 4 pm to see what time I could pick her up so all day I was anxious to make that call and hear that my Gaz monkey was okay and ready to come home. Oh I also asked them to microchip her while she was under. I called at 4 and they said she just woke up so we ended up picking her up around 6:30 p.m. The total cost for both the spay and the chip was UNDER $300! I am happy to finally have a trustworthy but affordable vet! Dr. Simpson is the man. :)

Gaz threw up a few times after we brought her home and then drank an enormous amount of water. She was so groggy that at one point she was laying on the ground and farted and she ended up peeing too. She looked so confused. :( She kept trying to pee every so often but only little dribbles would come out. But at 5 a.m. that morning I woke up to a big wet puddle on my blanket by my knees and a very upset looking Gaz on the ground. She makes this miserable looking face when she pees in places that she knows are really bad, but it's so endearing even at that hour. Wednesday she was tired and slept a lot but we noticed that she had some small amounts of blood in her urine. She's still trying to pee all the time and when we go actually go outside she pees then squats another 6 or 7 times in vain. This morning the blood got worse and was way more visible so I called the vet. They said it's normal in bulldogs and would clear up in less than 72 hours but they're gonna give me some antibiotics anyway to be safe. I'm gonna go get them later today and then we go back on Monday Nov 16th to get her stitches out.

Our girls go in tomorrow morning for their spay. They are just a week past 6 months old. I am a bit concerned about their recovery in that they are always together. They sleep together, actually in physical contact. I am going to have the vet put them in a "body stocking" in addition to the cone. I can't imagine they will tolerate the cone well. I am not so concerned about them irritating their own stitches, but rather grooming eachother. They are like little monkeys in that sense.

Hopefully we don't have any complications or backtracking in house training...

I spayed my little froggy 6 weeks ago, bought her home and she seemed fine. However, she wouldn't stop peeing all over the place. I figured she was still numb from the anesthesia. After a week, I called the vet and he prescribed an antibiotic for a UTI for 10 days. She was a little better after a few days, but I swear she still leaks urine a few times a week, especially after running around. She never did that! Sometimes I wonder whether I should have spayed her.

I don't recall blood in Abby's urine at all... but even being completely potty trained, she reverted back to peeing on the floor a couple times... she just didn't have control for a few days afterwards... or was just to sore to go anywhere else. Poor baby. I felt so bad the first day we brought her home... she couldn't find a comfy place to lay. Her sad little whine made me want to cry.

Usually after surgery , it is customary to either withhold water and give ice cubes or only give limited amounts of water as the anesthetic can cause Nausea.
As for it being "normal" for Bulldogs to have UTI's after being spayed..that is a new one on me..

My advice.. please keep your girl quiet for the next few days.. Spaying is major surgery; the same as a hysterectomy in Women.. Most Vets advise against rough play and dog parks for 2 weeks.. excersize should be limited to walks..
Hope she feels better soon..

Tootsie (my Rat Terrier) did that after her spay and I can't remember what the vet gave her, but it worked. Seems in little dogs it irritates them sometimes and they just have to pee, like having a UTI. Sure hope she's doing better. I'd sure have the vet check her to make sure she hasn't busted a stitch or something, though.
