Is there anyone else with two male frenchies? We just got two brothers and they love each other dearly. However, when they start to play sometimes they start biting each others face and ears. Has anyone else had this experience?

Our vet told us it was natural to just let them work it out, but I don't want them to think it's okay to bit other dogs.

When they start to get too rough we split them up. However, our vet did say to let them be that it was normal and they would learn how to work it out. We are very new Frenchie owners so I don't really have any other information for your unfortunately.

Is there ever a point when this rough-play is too much? My female seems to be too territorial...Any thoughts?

Yes, this is normal behavior and Frenchies, in particular, do seem to bite each other in the face. I have three males and the two that play together do this all the time. It's normal and if one of them gets too rough, the other one let's it be known and they break it off. They do work it out.

How old are your pups??

Have you ever watched puppies play? they pounce and bite.. beat up on each other and generally are hooligans.. this is the way that they learn thier boundaries with one another..and the adults..they have what is called "puppy liscence" until they are about 6 months old ,with adult dogs.. a time period where adult dogs will tolerate just about anything. from them.. after that, the adult dog/bitch will discipline..

One of the reasons Reputable breeders keep thier pups till 12-15 weeks of age is to let thier pups learn "bite inhibition".. this is the process of learning when biting is NOT appropriate.. The dame and littermates will correct a pup that has overstepped its' "liscence" to bite.. yipping , making a noise or even biting back..

Your Vet is correct, let them be.. this generally does not translate into aggression toward other dogs..
This is totally normal, natural puppy behavior..
