thanks for the email. the vet has refered her to a eye specialist. my dog is only 3yrs4mos. we don't know if this is what she has, just speculation. i just want to know what alternatives i have to surgery that i may want to consider for her.

Jennifer,
I am sorry to hear that your dog is suffering from this.. How old is your Frenchie? have you spoken to the breeder? have you determined the cause of the cataracts?
Here is an excellent link with information about cataracts.

My Dari has a Frenchie friend who is blind..we think it is from progressive retinopathy..Hopefully your dog will have the sight preserved..BUT, if you were ever at a playdate, it would be almost impossible to tell which dog is the one who can't see..He can navigate with the best of them.. knows his way around the house..and lives a normal life..
Blindness to a dog, is not a big deal..thier other senses compensate to an incredible degree..
Again, I hope that this is not the end result..Good luck and let us know what happens.
