Hi, I am new on here and I have a 6 month old Frenchie called Hugo. He has recently come up in bumps all over he's body. The bumps come and go very quickley and seem to move around the body. He has been on royal canin from since I bought him at 9 weeks. He comes to work with me and has the bumps come up at work and at home. The only thing I can think it is , is the carpets as I have used Glades shake and Vac, both at work and at home. Hugo rolls around on the carpet alot, so that makes me think it might be that.
He has been to the Vets and he has been given steriods and antibiotics for the stomach as he started to vomit flem a few times.
Has anyone any ideas?

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick! Our 8 month old frenchie had the same problem. His bumps were caused by a reaction to the antibiotic the vet had given him for an intestinal upset with diarrhea. Twenty-four hours (and Benadryl) later, after the meds were out of his system, the bumps were gone. Also when he was younger we had some regular vomiting issues. He was on Eukanuba from the breeder, then Royal Canin. We finally put him on Orijen Puppy and he's been doing great ever since. So we're thinking he has a grain allergy. I know a breeder that has a frenchie that is allergic toleaves! Every fall he breaks out and is put on meds until winter. Good luck with Hugo! He's adorable!

I am also new to this web sight, and Frenchies I have had Izzy for one and a half years and she too started breaking out in bumps. I changed her food no table food at all. I put her on grain free food and it has worked great, for treats I buy chicken and dry it into jerky she loves it, she can eat pig rawhides I got them at costco. I don't give more than one thing at a time and watch her carefully if she gets bumps no more of what she just had. I bought chicken jerky at costco not good she got bumps I noticed it was made in china and what it was marinated in ??? Her fur is so soft now and she has no doggy smell I only give her a bath every six weeks or so and she really doesn't need it but I don't like to wait to long she sleeps with me and a clean girl is good. My vet also suggested I give her powdered alge it is just a pinch a little pinch a day. I don't know if any of this helps anyone but mit worked for my little girl. good luck.

If she is allergic to the maluseb, why are you using it? 2x a week seems excessive to be bathing her, it's not allowing her natural skin oils to recover. Maybe if you just wiped her down with unscented baby wipes to take any dander off her skin? Lovey is on amitriptyline, 10 mg twice a day for her allergies and it has made a big difference (it's actually for nervousness, but has the side effect of helping with allergies). She weighs 21 pounds. I use a benzoyl peroxide shampoo on her every other week and alternate that with an aloe and oatmeal shampoo. So you might not want to use that. The benedryl did not help Lovey at all. Use unscented wipes on her tummy and feet when she's been outside or at the dog park. Join allerdog (do a search) and you'll find lots of helpful information. Good luck.

My munchkin has been diagnosed with alllergies UTA. I would list them but it would take a page. She's even allergic to human dander!

She's bathed 2x week with DVM Relief or DVM Maluseb. The Maluseb is an oatmeal based shampoo and since she's majorly allergic to it, we only use it sporatically. She takes benedryl 2 x a day and Temaril P when we are going to the dog park (which really allergies her out!) She also eats the Science Diet ZD with pieces of chicken added in. (vet recommended)

I don't know what else to do for her other than cleaning all the time. Her nose constantly runs and so do her eyes. Poor little munchkin!

If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them!

If anyone

You are welcome. Good luck.

One thing I forgot to mention is I also use a Dyson vacuum which has helped quite a bit.

You are already heading down the right path by considering it might be your carpet freshener. Allergies are very difficult to deal with. It can be a combination of different allergies, but only when there are enough at the same time do they cause the reaction. I can tell you what I ended up doing for my allergy prone 7 year old Mr. Nubbins.

Tried many different foods and am now using Natural Balance moist (sausage stick) and kibble, Potato and Duck. I use a non-allergenic detergent for laundry. I clean my hardwood floors with vinegar and water - no detergent. I bath him no more than once a month using The Ecology Works Pet Allergy Shampoo. I run an air filter in the bedroom. I keep the house clean with a robovac on each floor and they run every couple of days.

All of these types of measures together have helped and he no longer suffers from outbreaks. I am sure there were some things that contributed more than others, but trying to figure out which one was not really an option since it meant I had to do a controlled test and thus let him suffer in order to figure it out. He was miserable and I was desperate.

So, I would try to do as much as you can to try to alleviate his suffering such as changing what you use for carpet freshener, detergents, shampoos, etc... things that don't force you to spend a lot of money initially or inconvenience you too much and work up from there.
