i have two frenchies both are white pied my girl has not one face or tear stain, my little man however has a large tear stain on white side that is always very wet. i asked my vet she told me no over the counter tear stain remover works (said a medication may help?), he drinks filtered water only, i don't think he has any food allergies looking for helpful hints please. really bothers me more than my little man. i look at frenchie photos and maybe i am blinded by beauty but i don't see alot of tear stains a few but not many.
willing to try anything that will not harm my boy, prefer not to medicate if any one has any tips please share with me.

Hi Jill- I feel the same way about the tear stains (for her one eye hehe) Chikas tear stain is GONE! I had gone to Petco to look for a product there and the gal that worked there basically said none of the over the counter or topical stuff works and she highly recomends to the customers to use Angel Eyes. Its a Beef flavored powder that you sprinkle into there food. Amazon sells it and the Angel Eyes website, I purchased mine on eBay. I researched for any negative feedback (since she was going to be eating it) and couldnt find anything but good reviews. Here is Chika enjoying a sweet potatoe chewie treat but you can clearly tell that there is no tear stain! Let me know if you have any other questions that i may be able to answer for you about it. Please note that in no way am i affiliated with Angel Eyes or its company (lol)

Angel Eyes works because it has an antibiotic.. Tylosin..
If your dog has tearstains and they are going away because it is on a daily medication.. then there is an underlying infection/allergy causing the eye to overproduce tears..

Be that as it may; being on an antibiotic daily is not a good idea..

Many people report success with keeping the area dry with desitin or something similar..I am sure others will tell what they have had success with..

Like Fran said, I too would be rather leery about any antibiotic that were added to the dog's food on a daily basis... Even "all-natural" things can be toxic to our pets and unless your dog actually has a yeast infection I would hesitate to treat the sensitive area with a daily dose of antibiotics that can have far more harmful effects over the long run...

That said, the staining is commonplace among lots of pied and fawn-colored dogs... Here's a handy reference guide that has numerous other links on the same topic (below): http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/grooming/grooming4.htm - As with any remedy found on the internet, use common sense and do additional research to find out all the pros and cons... And also remember that dogs that suffer from allergies can have adverse reactions to allergens that affect people... Some dogs are highly allergic to flea bites, and some dogs are just fine... A wasp sting can kill certain dogs and people, whereas it'll have no affect on people that aren't allergic... And the only reason I'm stating these things is because it's important for us to know that what works for one dog won't necessarily work for all dogs...

Lastly, if the breeder of your dogs is a reputable hobby breeder that shows in conformation, then you should contact her and find out what she suggests for tear staining... I again have to agree with Fran since many of the people we know have used a bit of Desitin... You dab it very sparingly (in moderation) and make sure that it's "dry" and not moist (since moisture is a breeding ground for yeast and bacteria)...

thank you for helping my with ollies tear stains i had never been told about desitin but it sounds like it is worth trying this site is so helpful. also thanks for the link to look up (good info) if he has a yeast or bacteria issue would you recommend trying to clear it up first with angel eyes or should i have my vet take a look first, she said it was not a big issue last visit but it has darken since the last appointment and seems to become wet more often when were outdoors and sometimes it seems to be itchy and bothersome to my little guy.
thank you for caring,

I to have used Angel Eyes with great success on my white Frenchie. I found the best prices on Drugstore.com. It comes in different flavors and my dog gobbles all 3 flavors that I have tried. I checked with my Vet and she said it was safe and I have had no problems. The stains are completely gone. She has now been weened down to twice a week. Good luck with your little man.

thanks again,
ollie and jill

Hi,

I too have a white pied frenchie and she had the same exact eye stain as in your picture. I use Angel eyes and within 2 weeks the tear stains were completely gone. I only used it after talking to my vet.

My vet is the one who recommended Angel Eyes. I also have a white pied frenchie. Lola is almost 6 months old and looks great! I use the chicken flavored, and she loves it. Makes a huge difference. I have not noticed any allergic reaction.
I just sprinkle it on her Blue Buffalo dog food every morning and she gobbles it up!

My vet is the one who recommended Angel Eyes.

Ask your vet if she's familiar with the concept of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Essentially, the more your dog takes antibiotics, the more difficult it will become to treat her in the future if/when she has a serious condition requiring them.

Overuse of antibiotic is responsible for the rise of the so called 'super bugs' - bacteria that cannot be killed by any of the commonly available antibiotics. MRSA is the best known of these.

Having a dog with a pretty face is great - and tear stains are the bane of ALL owners of Frenchies with light faced dogs - but is it really worth risking her future health for?
