French Bulldog Friends

Share your love for French Bulldogs!

I purchased my frenchie about 1 month ago from a shady breeder in PA..As it turns out,He is straight out of a puppy mill & this " breeder" was stealing well known breeders photos & saying the pups were hers.Anyways,I brought my dog to 2 vets so far that both gave me heartbreaking news. One vet actually reffered to him as genetic garbage.I was told that he has serious breathing problems, his ribs are 'probably' growing the wrong way,he might have issues with his esophagus & he's not a candidate for surgery because of his breathing. I'm in serious need of a French bulldog specialist(willing to travel) the 2nd vet I brought him to suggested that I might want to consider putting him down. I'd really like to hear this all from a specialist though given that both vets said they weren't completely familiar with his breed.Any advice would help.Thank you !

wow, first of all i'm so sorry to hear about your puppy! secondly, where do you live?
I live in Brooklyn,NY & can't seem to find a vet here :/ thank you
diana, i've asked a few of my friends that live in new york and i am sure they will get back to me. in the mean time. i would contact Lori Hunt, DVM. Ohio. Email: AssisiFrenchies@aol.com · she is also a frenchie breeder and i would trust her with anything regarding my frogs!

her web site http://www.freewebs.com/assisifrenchies/
good luck and please keep us posted. i'll get back to you as soon as i have some more info with a vet closer to you.
Thank you SO much! You just made my night :) I will definitely keep you posted
Hi Diana! Welcome! I'm also very sorry to hear of your troubles...Good for you for getting to the bottom of things as best you can. I'm no help with vets I'm afraid but definately support your efforts. Good luck! :)
Thank you! I've had my Vito for 1 month now & I'm so ridiculously attached to him that I would do anything.I refuse to give up on him but I need to know from a specialist that I'm doing everything I can to give him the best life possible :) thank you for the support.I appreciate it SO much
Oh Diana.. I am so sorry to hear this.. I see you are in NY; have you heard of the specialty hospital in NYC on W 55 St? you need to get a referal by your current Vet to go there..but they are very knowledgable.. Or the Animal Medical Center on 62 and York Ave? the AMC is the largest teaching hospital in the United States..

I would,if this were my dog, try to go to the specialty hospital on W55 St.. I have heard just wonderful things from people who have gone there.. 410 West 55th Street
New York, NY 10019
(212) 767-0099
Everyone on Staff is board certified in the Specialty they practice.

If it were my dog, I would not be so quick to euthenize..You are right, you need to go to someone with more specialized training and knowledge..
So sorry, Diana, to hear of little Vito's problems. I wish you all the luck in the world finding help for him. Even the not so perfectly breeded frenchies deserve to be treated like kings and queens. Hugs from Indiana.
One vet actually reffered to him as genetic garbage.

That is a HORRIBLE thing for any veterinarian to say. I second the advice that's been given below - Lori is great.

Also, could you please contact me offline with the name or website of this "breeder"? Like many of us, I've been plagued with people stealing my photos, and I do like to 'out' the culprits publicly when I catch them at it (no matter whose photos they're stealing).
hi diana,
we are all so distressed to hear of your little guys problems! i would like to encourage you to seek the help of the better business burea in your area and look to get these terrible people where it hurts, $. if your dog happens to be akc registered, you can also contact the american kennel club and submit a complaint about the breeder. of coarse, no matter what, do not return your dog to these awful people.
after i took lola to the vet the day after i got her, i contacted her "breeder":( and threatened all sorts of things, but in the end all she wanted to do was return my money and take her back...YEAH RIGHT!!!!! so my only alternative was to try and hurt her business. i did my best, but neither of these agencies seem to be good at letting you know the outcome, but i feel i did what i could to try and stop theses particular people and i saved lola in the process.
good luck, you came to the right place!

you can try this clinic as well.
