We are looking at a red black masked puppy & he has black fur mixed in his coat on his back primarily. The breeder said he would lose the black "baby fur" over time. Does anyone know this to be true? My fawn has darkened with age, but I didn't think they got lighter with age.
i have foud this to be true with my red bmf. she never had black on her back but some of the black has faded on her mask (although still very prominent) and she has lost a sort of smuttiness. both my brindle boys have gotten a lot lighter as they aged. there is a lot more fawn and a lot less brindling, especially in my basil.
if you're getting your pup fron a reputable breeder that shows and health tests...i would trust her. she knows her lines and her dogs. good luck!
At 8 mos. Lola was barely brindled at all. Black brindle I guess? She has gotten much more in the last 8 mos. So that is very good to know that she may continue to change up til 3. you learn something new everyday around here!
Wow! 3?! My girl is only 14 weeks old and had already been "brindling up" quite well since I got her. I had never heard of puppies changing fur colors, but she has been and I hope she continues to do so! I would agree with Samia about the breeder's word if you like the breeder enough to consider one of their pups. :)
